Martian Rex recently revealed a new trailer for their upcoming title, Stone Story RPG. The project is an ambitious and impressive adventure RPG made entirely in a unique ASCII visual style. Follow a lone adventurer as they fight through monster-infested lands to collect a number of magical stones and return the light back to his realm. After five years, the team invites players to join in the project’s Early Access period.
The game’s creator and lead developer/animator, standardcombo, has recreated many familiar RPG elements into his unique ASCII style. This game showcases some fantastic ASCII art including a beautiful moonlight lake scene, enormous ants, gigantic snails, flying bats, and a giant vampire skeleton. Prepare to experience over eight hours of rich and stunning gameplay, paired with a great soundtrack.
When asked about the possible differences between the final completed version and this upcoming Early Access version, the development team stated that they have improvements in mind which they hope will enhance the player’s experience as well as encouraging replayability.
Currently, your goals run out at about 1 month of play. In addition to small improvements on several fronts, the final version of Stone Story will stay fun and interesting for much longer. There is also a layer of user-generated content that needs expanding.
Check out the project’s 2016 official trailer below, and see the pretty awesome teasers of some of the world’s various locations on the team’s YouTube channel. For even more ASCII game art, why not try your hand at the team’s previous project, Pyramid Builder. “Guide workers through farming, unloading cargo and pushing the gigantic stone to build a mighty pyramid, in pure ASCII delight!” Think you can do it in 30 days (in-game of course)?
Wishlist this title to be notified of when it becomes available. Early access for Stone Story RPG will go into effect later this summer on August 8th. The game will be playable for PC players on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
