New Details Emerge for Telltale’s Batman Game

In December 2015, Telltale released a trailer for their upcoming series of Batman Games.  Although Telltale has been quiet about the game, at SXSW today we got a little bit more info about what Batman: A Telltale Game Series will be like.

Although there wasn’t a new trailer, the developers and writers for the game did share some details.  While they can’t show any gameplay yet, the presenters stated that the game is slated for a summer 2016 release date.  Players will get to choose to play as either Bruce Wayne or Batman, but eventually players will have to play both.  The actions you take as Bruce Wayne affect what happens as Batman, and vice-versa.  The developers stated that the story “will focus on Bruce and Batman, not an examination of the extended ‘Bat-Family’ (Robin, Nightwing,etc.).”

Along with Bruce Wayne are some familiar supporting characters such as Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya.  No word yet on what villains will show up, but it is confirmed that there will be more than one.

For the art-style, Telltale is going for a comic book look as opposed to a realistic one.  The art style will be inspired by some of the comic industry’s most recognized artists such as Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, and Neal Adams.  We can guess the game may have an art-style similar to Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us.  As far as gameplay goes, we can expect Telltale’s unique brand of storytelling, with choices that lead to different paths in the story.  The game will also have an M Rating, giving Telltale freedom to tell the best story they can.

It’s certainly interesting that Telltale is handling the Batman franchise, especially since the Arkham series were combo-focused action games.  Telltale does a good job with their licenses their given, so it’s safe to say that Batman is in good hands.
