New Destiny Update Launches Tuesday

A new Destiny update set for release on February 14, Bungie confirmed. Bungie also said that the update will be targeting the game’s weapon balancing. The update will be available at approximately 10 AM PT.

Bungie demonstrated what parts of Destiny were improved in a live stream, which has now ended. A key change is that shotguns have been dialed back due to their overwhelming strength in Crucible. Several abilities in the game were also dialed back. Stormcaller’s melee range has been reduced making it similar to other Warlock melee abilities. Gunslinger’s knife now does solar damage.

Full patch notes have not been released. However, Bungie did make a blog post that they will be released Tuesday along with the patch.

“At this moment, we’re checking and rechecking all the details that will get published for your scrutiny,” part of the post reads. “There are statistics to verify and changes to confirm. We cross-reference information provided by every discipline. Designers. Testers. Engineers. Ninjas.”

There is also subreddit for fans to speculate about the details of the new update.

The stream made no mention about changes to artifacts, but Bungie has suggested that the changes to artifacts will be a part of the new update in the same post.

“You haven’t heard the last from the Live Team, and the sandbox is always an important part of their exploration of where the game should go next,” another part of the post reads. “With 2.5.0.2 almost off the workbench, our design team is looking at another future release as a potential vehicle for some tuning on Artifacts as well. Time will tell, and you’re always a part of the conversation.”

The post also made no reference to Destiny‘s sequel but according to its earnings release Blizzard has reconfirmed that the game will be available in the fall, adding that the game will be more accessible to casual players.
