Netflix Geeked Week Unveils Upcoming Mobile Ports of Beloved Titles Including Hades, Braid, Death’s Door, & More Coming To The Platform

When one thinks of “Netflix”, they don’t necessarily think of video games, or if they do they think of various video game adaptations that have been featured on the platform. But as revealed during the 2023 Geeked Week Netflix are making moves to present their mobile gaming platform more prominently. They’ve unveiled some new games coming to their Netflix games catalog on smartphone:

First, and possibly the biggest name on the list, Supergiant’s Hades, a beloved indie roguelike is going to be making its way to Netflix’s mobile platform sometime next year. First-time players will likely be blown away by the depth of gameplay and art this great title brings to the table, and it’s good that it will be available to Netflix’s wider audience.

Speaking of indie darlings, Askiisoft’s Katana Zero will also be available for play, an action platformer starring a rogue samurai zipping through a cyberpunk-esque nightmare world, Katana Zero is notable for its soundtrack, story, and fast-paced slice and dice action. It’ll be interesting to see how it adapts to mobile play.

Still on the titles being ported, Braid a classic indie platformer by developer Number None and famous (or perhaps infamous) brainchild of developer Jonathan Blow Braid was an interesting game that had a lot to say about the state of video games when it released in 2008, and through Netflix’s mobile platform it will be interesting to revisit the game and see how its messages hold up in a contemporary light.

Also being ported to Netflix’s platform is Death’s Door, an isometric action adventure game by Acid Nerve, where you play as a crow collecting souls will also make its roost on the platform.

Though speaking of contemporary, a more recent title to make it to Netflix’s smartphone store is The Dragon Prince: Xadia, a video game adaptation of the popular show The Dragon Prince, presented as a hack and slash looter ARPG, and adopting the show’s visuals, this game will likely be a hit with anyone who is interested in its source material.

In the same vein as The Dragon Prince: Xadia two of Netflix’s original properties, Money Heist and Shadow and Bone will also be receiving their own video game adaptations dubbed Money Heist and Shadow and Bone: Enter the Fold, respectively as visual novels exploring the world of the two popular shows.

On the topic of birds there’s also Chicken Run: Eggstraction. A companion game for Netflix’s upcoming Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, though there isn’t much information available for the game currently from what we can tell it’s isometric and will be worked on closely with the movie crew of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, including Pete Lord.

It really seems like Netflix is looking to bolster its gaming platform in the coming year, and there are some heavy hitters in the lineup here, alongside the games already available. To play these games through Netflix, remember that they’re only available for Android and iOS and that you’ll need an active Netflix subscription.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
