Netflix Announces Unhinged, A New Immersive Game Experience Starring Zoe Kravitz, Sadie Sink, & Troy Baker; Available Exclusively Starting June 30

Following the release of the new FIFA title available on the platform, Netflix has announced a new game from Night School Studios, the developers behind Oxenfree, called UnhingedIt’s a new immersive horror game experience that stars Zoë Kravitz, Sadie Sink, and Troy Baker, and will be available for the platform on June 30.

Unhinged follows Ava (Kravitz) as she is trapped in her apartment building by a Category 5 Hurricane. Her only link to the outside world is a call from her best friend Claire (Sink), who lives across the street.

But the true terror is inside. A suffocating uneasiness transforms her sanctuary into a hostile prison. The building’s stairwell is locked shut, blocking her only escape, and a wellness check on a neighbor reveals unsettling signs of life, but no answer. Finally, a spine-chilling realization sets in: Ava is no longer alone.

What begins as a terrifying blackout in a raging storm spirals into a mind-bending thriller. With only your phone to guide you, this is a story of unpredictable turns.

Like other Netflix games on the platform, Unhinged is played through the phone which acts as the controller. The real-world movements of the phone tracks with Ava’s hands in the game, allowing players to guide her flashlight through the shadows.

The phone is also utilized in other ways for immersion. When Ava receives a call or text, the actual phone the player is using will ring, vibrate, and play the audio directly through its speaker, while the rest of the environmental sound effects will come through the TV.

There are also two modes players can choose from. Story Mode provides a pure narrative experience. There is no timer preventing Ava from dying and lets players go through the story. Standard Mode, however, is a little more involved. During high-stakes moments, a shrinking timer bar at the top of the screen forces players to quickly scan the room for an interactive object. If they can’t find what they need before time runs out, they will die — though instead of a total game over, the game restarts from the last checkpoint.
