To wrap up their first ever Geeked Week, streaming company Netflix announced a collaboration with CD Projekt Red to host a convention specifically for fans of The Witcher. Hitting the ground running, this Witchercon will take place on July 9, 2021, and will be available to watch on both Netflix and CD Projekt Red’s Twitch and Youtube. According to the Witchercon website, the event will involve deeper exploration into the lore and the making of the game and show, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content and an interactive panel.
After the first season of the show was highly successful during its release in 2019, and the general success of the video game series, both companies have teased more Witcher content beyond this one-day event. Netflix is planning, alongside a season 2 of the main show (which does not yet have a release date), an animated Witcher spinoff movie and live-action prequel show entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin. Also during Geeked Week, Netflix released an 11-second teaser featuring the character Ciri for the second season. CD Projekt Red is less upfront about their plans for The Witcher in the future, but more content has been hinted at and WitcherCon would be a good place to make any important announcements. It has been stated that no new Witcher game will be announced during Witchercon, but surprises are to be expected.

It is safe to say that any Witcher fan can be excited about WitcherCon and the probable future Witcher projects. This event is being marketed as a celebration for the series and will be full of new content. Netflix’s first Geeked Week ends on June 11, and both these projects will likely continue annually (and hopefully in-person) in upcoming years. More information about Witchercon will be revealed as it grows closer.
