NetEase Games Subsidiary, Worlds Untold, “Pauses Operations” Until Further Notice

Established last year in November of 2023, Worlds Untold is a subsidiary of NetEase Games and led by Mass Effect series writer, Mac Walters. The young company was in the process of developing a near future, action-adventure game that centered around exploration and mystery. No other details have been given on the game and the team haven’t even spoken about when any new information about the game will be released. However, the team has recently taken a massive hit as Walter announced that the company would be making the “difficult decision to pause operations.”

It’s hard to find the right words for this, but I wanted to share that we’ve made the very difficult decision to pause operations at Worlds Untold while we search for a new partner to help bring our vision to life. This was not a decision we made lightly—it’s been a deeply personal journey, and we’re all so proud of everything this team has built together.

This came as a somber tone for the company as Walter posted this update on LinkedIn yesterday, leading many to worry about an outright closure on the horizon. While that doesn’t seem to be the case as of now, it is a fair concern for anyone in the company’s position. Walter proceeded to say in the LinkedIn post:

This is a heartbreaking moment for everyone involved, but I’m deeply grateful for the support of our partners, friends, and family, and for the time we’ve had together at Worlds Untold. While we’re pausing for now, this isn’t goodbye—there’s more to come, and we look forward to sharing the next chapter with you when the time is right.

No details pertaining to the company’s woes have been released and there no current prospects have been named as potential funders for Worlds Untold and NetEase. Fans can only hope that Walter and Worlds Untold receive the help they need.
