Uncharted: The Lost Legacy releases later this month on August 22. In preparation of the highly anticipated release, Sony has released a video in which developers at Naughty Dog share some of their insights on making the Playstation exclusive. In the video the developers talk about how they first viewed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. They initially saw it as something much smaller and more contained than it is currently, but as the development process went on the team had decided to expand the size of the game. The developers simply put it “It just blew up; before we knew it, a full game.” Also in the video we learn that the developer considered making Sully or Sam the focus for an expansion before choosing Chloe and Nadine.
Contrary to previous installments, Nathan Drake will not be the protagonist in this game. Instead, players will be taking control series character Chloe Frazer, along with the mercenary Nadine Ross from Uncharted 4. Creative Director Shaun Escayg said that the reason that they moved away from Drake for this installment in the series was that his role came to a close. “We felt we wrapped that story up on Uncharted 4,” Escayg stated. He also added that they Naughty Dog has been aiming to “find a new cast of characters that could actually carry on the Uncharted legacy.” The game’s official director Kurt Margenau also stated that it was crucial for fans to realize that “Uncharted is more than just Nathan Drake.” Naughty Dog is hopeful that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be able to stand alone as it’s very on entry into the series.
