Goodbye Club Nintendo.
Now up and running as of this morning, Nintendo’s replacement account and newest reward system, My Nintendo, is live! On the downside, this does mean that Club Nintendo is no longer continuing, and has gone offline. RIP.
Alongside this, Nintendo has also launched their first ever phone app Miitomo in the US/European regions as well. Having previously seen good download numbers in Japan, Nintendo is hopeful that the app will have similar success in the West as well.
My Nintendo is a fun, perhaps slightly confounding, rewards system for users who own consoles, games, or apps. Users are rewarded for completing Missions, which is a long list of things (mostly pertaining to Miitomo). An easy one users can do right off the bat is link their Nintendo Network ID and receive a neato free download of the Flipnote Studio 3D.
The reward system on My Nintendo uses three different kinds of currency: Miitomo Platinum Points, regular Platinum Points, and Gold Points. Miitomo Platinum points are exactly what they sound like: points earned from completing mission in the Miitomo phone app. Ordinary Platinum points are earned by everyday, normal Missions (you can find a list of those below). Meanwhile, Gold Points can only be earned by buying games or swag in the eShop.
Nintendo also intends to integrate this system with their highly anticipated console, code named Nintendo NX.
It looks like Nintendo has taken a step forward in a new direction–so go ahead and start familiarizing yourself with the system, and start racking up those rewards! Both My Nintendo and Miitomo are free to download/start (Miitomo with in-app purchases).
