At last year’s E3, publisher Devolver Digital announced My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas, 2D sidescrolling shooter game for the Nintendo Switch and PC, developed by DeadToast Entertainment. After announcing a general release month for the title back in March, Devolver Digital surprised the internet with a new trailer today, appropriately titled “Release Date Hype Train”, in which they finally confirmed the game’s release for June 20—just two weeks from today.
My Friend Pedro is described on Steam as “a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana.” Today’s trailer lives up to the description, as the player’s character—not Pedro the banana, but a currently unnamed human man—moves across the screen gracefully, shooting at enemies while dodging their bullets. Sure enough, his flexibility and movements do resemble those of a ballerina.
As the above description suggests, My Friend Pedro follows a character who first embarks on this violent, gun-slinging journey because a banana just…tells him to. Seems legit. The game allows players to utilize different functions to take out enemies, such as slow motion and split aiming, which will create “one sensational action sequence after another”, according to the game’s website. Though it’s not in the trailer, there will reportedly be “possibly fatal” physics-based puzzles and even a motorcycle chase to break up some of the high action sequences of the game.
For anyone who’s already determined to get their hands on this game right at launch, you’re in luck, as there is currently 15% discount for anyone who preorders the game on either of the available platforms. They’re also encouraging people to check out the game’s website to “chat with Pedro.” (There’s a special chat box just to talk to him in the bottom right corner of the screen. He’s very chatty for a banana.)
