The Game Awards took place just a few short days ago. Along with giving out tons of awards to 2019’s best games, a plethora of new announcements, trailers, and reveals happened. We even got our first look at games coming to the next generation consoles. Speaking of which, we even got an official reveal of what one of those next gen consoles is. Take a look at the 10 biggest things from The Game Awards 2019 below:
10. Magic: Legends
A Magic: The Gathering MMO. Yes, you heard that right. An MMO for the hit TCG Magic: The Gathering titled Magic: Legends was revealed during The Game Awards. Though not much is currently known, the trailer shows off the Planes where the MMO will take place. The MMO is set to be a third person action RPG and is set to release sometime next year. There’s even a beta that fans can currently sign up for. It will be interesting to see how an RPG based on the card game turns out, and that’s an exciting prospect.
9. Cyberpunk 2077 Soundtrack
Sometimes, you know a game is going to be big. CD Projekt RED’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 looks to be one of those. Earlier this year, it was revealed Keanu Reeves will be appearing in the game. Then, at The Game Awards, the artists contributing to the game’s soundtrack were revealed, and, oh boy, are there some big names making music for the game. Artists such as Grimes (who also appears in game as pop star Lizzy Wizzy), A$AP Rocky, Run The Jewels, Ilan Rubin of The New Regime, Refused, and a plethora of other talented musicians will all be on the soundtrack for the game. That’s an incredibly stacked roster of musicians for one of 2020’s most anticipated games.
8. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps has been one of the most anticipated Xbox One exclusives since its reveal a few years ago. The new trailer showed off some intense moments of gameplay as Ori explores the world of the Metroidvania style world of the game. Unfortunately, the new trailer was accompanied by some bad news as the game has been delayed a month to March 11, 2020.
7. Bravely Default II
Another surprising announcement! Announced as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, Bravely Default II, the third in the series after Bravely Default and Bravely Second, looks to return players to the world of Luxendarc. The trailer for the game showcased a plethora of beautiful environments that look to take some inspiration from Octopath Traveler. This announcement is sure to be exciting for any JPRG and Square Enix fan.
6. No More Heroes III
Possibly the best bait-and-switch trailer of the year was No More Heroes III appearing during The Game Awards preshow. The reveal started with even host Sydnee Goodman stating she didn’t know what it was beforehand. The trailer, similar to an old Japanese animated movie, told the story of a young boy named Daemon meeting an alien named Fu, and helping him leave the planet. However, 20 years later Fu returns with a gang of intergalactic criminals to become superheroes on Earth. The trailer ends revealing the name God Damn Superhero before Travis Touchdown crashes through the screen to reveal the whole thing was setting up the villains for No More Heroes III to the surprise of everyone watching.
5. The Wolf Among Us 2
After TellTale went under late last year, all their games in development, including season 2 of The Wolf Among Us, were shuttered to the dismay of many. However, LCG Entertainment bought the TellTale name with the promise to revive the company and bring back those games. That’s exactly what they’ve started as The Wolf Among Us 2 was reintroduced at The Game Awards. The short trailer shows something is amiss in Manhattan and Bigby must take action. IT is exciting to see this game come back after the sad end to TellTale Games.
4. Godfall
The first official PlayStation 5 game. Again, the first official PlayStation 5 game. Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox, Godfall is a looter-slasher RPG where players will engage in intense melee combat. As the trailer teased three separate characters, it was revealed that the game would be playable solo or with up to two other players. Not much else is currently known, but Godfall is set to release on PlayStation 5 and PC next holiday season.
3. Xbox Series X
The first reveal of the main show caught everyone off guard. At first, the trailer seemed mysterious with shots of different landscapes accompanied by narration about dreams. Then, a car comes speeding through a canyon before a shift to a Soccer game that would then transition to Master Chief running towards the edge of a cliff. This would then lead to the unveiling of Microsoft’s, and the first, next generation console named the Xbox Series X. The console appears similar to a PC tower, and is set to “Power Your Dreams” upon its holiday 2020 release.
2. Ghost of Tsushima
After receiving a teaser during the latest State of Play, Sucker Punch’s upcoming Ghost of Tsushima got a proper trailer during The Game Awards. The trailer showcased main protagonist “The Ghost” Jin Sakai taking out the Mongolian invaders in different samurai and ninja styles. The game itself still looks as graphically impressive as ever and looks to end the PlayStation 4 era with a bang as the trailer ended with a release window of Summer 2020.
1. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
After the reveal of the Xbox Series X, Phil Spencer introduced a game being developed specifically for the next generation console. That game ended up being Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II the sequel to Ninja Theory’s hit 2017 release Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Touted as running all in engine, the trailer shows Senua, along with her Furies, chanting in front of a fire and an army inter cut with what appears to be warriors hunting a giant the size of a mountain. If the game turns out to look as good as the trailer suggests, then the next generation looks to be amazing.
