Nearly 100 years ago, a large meteor known as the “Moon Dragon” hit and demolished a tropical vacation island, wiping out most of the life there. Whatever or whoever was left, discovered themselves to be mutating from whatever the meteor brought to the surface. Any rescue missions for the last survivors retreated, and said survivors found themselves creating a small community and home known as Mutazione. And that’s where the story of Mutazione begins.
The “mutant soap opera” story of Mutazione takes place 100 years after the Moon Dragon meteor hits and changes the entire biome of the tropical paradise. Players take on the role of 15-year old Kai as she heads to Mutazione to help nurse her ailing grandfather, Nonno, back to health. From here, her every day life is seemingly simple. She tends to the gardens where players can enjoy relaxing and peaceful music, and customize it completely to their liking. Or she runs errands, makes new friends, attends BBQ’s, goes to band nights, experiences boat nights… but things aren’t as simple as they seem.
Nonno seems to have separate plans for Kai, as well as there are some secrets and betrayals that are starting to boil just beneath the surface of the community’s friendly facade. And what’s even worse, a bizarre bird creature seems to be showing up in all of Kai’s dreams. And if the trailer has anything to say about it, is that there may be more than one mysterious figure that comes to Kai, with the antlered person at the very end of the trailer showing up for only a split second.
What the game will have players do aside from customizing gardens isn’t entirely laid out yet. But given the levels of drama and the fact that the game states that the gossip is just as important as the higher stakes for the adventure of the game, means that the balance between the two and that it’s possible they will intersect with each other through the story.
Mutazione will be available for PC and PS4 on September 19 for $19.99 USD.
