October 23rd marked the reveal of 50 upcoming games during The Galaxies Autumn Showcase, wherein Fumi Games’ highly anticipated cartoon animated first-person shooter, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, received its release date and gameplay reveal trailer. Initially teased back in May 2023 under its placeholder title at the time, MOUSE, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has seen strong fan support online since its initial teaser trailers. This success among its growing fan base is largely due to Fumi Games’ unique stylistic choice of combining the 1930s classic rubber hose animation style, akin to Walt Disney’s Steamboat Willy and Mickey Mouse cartoons, with 40s and 50s film noir themes of low-key lighting and crime. The use of the 30s rubber hose style seen in MOUSE was popularized most notably by Studio MDHR’s critically acclaimed 2017 run-and-gun platformer, Cuphead. Given this knowledge, we can see that Fumi Games appears to be piggybacking on this idea, further modernizing the distinct 1930s cartoon style by translating it into a first-person shooter environment this time.
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire sees you step into the shoes of Jack Pepper, Private Investigator in the city of Mouseburg, who’s been tasked with investigating the city’s seedy underbelly. In a city that reeks of corruption, kidnapping, and murder, you will have to unravel the dark mysteries that surround it while exploring over 20 noir-infused levels. Equipped with a fully stocked arsenal of over a dozen unique weapons, Jack Pepper isn’t holding back; rather, despite the cartoony art style, you’ll be blasting your enemies away in traditionally gory boomer shooter fashion. Gamers will notice a combination of Metroidvania-inspired level traversal and a slew of unlockable movement abilities, which work together to make MOUSE: P.I. For Hire an exhilarating upcoming release.
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire’s unique, expressive, and densely detailed cartoon art style, paired with its fitting orchestral big band jazz soundtrack, and voice acting from Troy Baker, the voice of Joel from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, reinforces fan excitement for the game as we approach its release to all current-gen platforms on March 19, 2026.
