Motion Twin’s ‘Dead Cells’ is Coming to PS4 This Year

Developer Motion Twins has announced, through the PlayStation Blog, that it has been working on new game that will release later this year. Dead Cells is described as a “rogue-lite action platformer,” with an ultimate gameplay goal of empowering players. The game is currently available in early access on Steam, with Motion Twins now expanding the game’s playable platforms to the PlayStation 4 as well.

Dead Cells is designed to be a challenging experience. You won’t be breezing through the game on your first go, unless you’ve got some outrageous Jedi-like reflexes. But difficulty for difficulty’s sake makes no sense, so each challenge should feel tough but not insurmountable,” writes Sebastien Bénard, Dead Cells‘ lead developer. “We want you to feel rewarded by your own progress, the strength of your character being equal to the extent of your skills, not feel like your progression is being artificially restrained by the game.”

“While you’re busy sharpening your skills, you will also unlock new weapons, new levels and new perks which will give you new things to experience and new objectives for your next runs,” Bénard added. Dead Cells follows the player’s exploration of an “ever-changing” castle, with no checkpoints to save progress; as its Steam description says, “kill, die, learn, repeat.”

Dead Cells has been available for PC in early access since May 2017, and will likely remain in early access for another few months according to the game’s steam page. Dead Cells‘ PS4 version does not yet have a release date, but Motion Twin has confirmed it will be available at some point in 2018.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
