Dead Cells is a rogue-like action platformer game that had come out in 2018. When Motion Twin, the developers, announced the game they had described it as “challenging experience”. The game wasn’t going to be difficult for the sake of being difficult, but for the sake of it being a challenge. And how that would affect how the game will be played. It received critical acclaim when it came out on PC and garnered physical special editions for Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4. It also landed a spot on MXDWN’S Top 10 Games of 2018. And then it was announced for a whole new audience of players:
Mobile gaming offers variety and a new branch of an audience. Teaming up with Playdigious (who had helped the developers of Cultist Simulator when they brought their game to mobile devices), Motion Twin is hard at work porting the game for mobile devices. Well, it does go beyond just porting.
The game will stay the same; players taking control of the main protagonist, and making their way through the sometimes labyrinth worlds and levels, killing, dying, learning, and repeating, the games mechanics will take on one for the thumbs. The game is being carefully redesigned for mobile devices, changing things to have a new interface, fully customisable buttons, and supports MFi external controllers.
As of currently, there are two game modes confirmed, original and auto-hit. Dead Cells will be available for around $9.99 USD. Though, it will be available for iOS devices sometime in Summer 2019, but for Android devices “later”. Whether or not that means later in the summer, or not until the fall or winter is still up for debate.
