Things are getting cold for the Christmas season as Netherrealm Studios has recently updated Mortal Kombat 1 with the third season of their “Invasions” mode. This time featuring a incursion caused by a version of the iconic ninja Sub-Zero and his own universe of cryomancers looking to freeze the realms.
This update comes with several new costumes and accessories for your characters, as well as new challenges coming your way with all new boss battles against super-sized versions of characters and obstacle courses set up by the ice magic wielding ninjas, including a rather cheeky reference to the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie scene where Liu Kang defeats Sub-Zero using a bucket of water.
But that’s not the only thing we’ve been gifted with for Christmas, as Mortal Kombat 1 has also recently updated to bring us the next DLC characters for the roster, this time being the devious sorcerer Quan Chi and the kameo for the invisible ninja Khameleon.
Quan Chi is now live for purchase as well as Khameleon, and it seems that Quan Chi has brought a few new tricks to his arsenal since last he was playable in Mortal Kombat X, namely an interdimesional squid monster sure to wreck havoc on any opponent he comes across.
Mortal Kombat 1 has been in a bit of a precarious situation in terms of how its community views it, and how it has handled its post-release content. But hopefully these new additions are a step in the right direction for the game, and the addition of new characters, costumes, kameos, and content as well as maybe a new outlook on the monetization and balance of these things will keep Mortal Kombat 1 living a long and healthy life both competitively and with those who want to enjoy the game in a more casual context.
