NetherRealm Studios has finally given us a real first look at one of the DLC fighters for Mortal Kombat 1. Omni-Man from Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley’s Invincible will be the first DLC character to be released for the title, and he’s coming very soon, next month in fact! The studio confirmed that Omni-Man will be coming in November 2023, although an exact date is still unknown. He will be voiced by renowned actor J.K. Simmons, who also portrayed him in the popular animated Netflix adaptation.
As you’d expect, Omni-Man is a brutal, vicious, bruising brawler with extremely powerful attacks. His style makes him a bit slower than other Kombatants, but this is quickly made up by his dominating combos that quickly deplete his opponent’s health bar. He also has a counter-attack move that allows him to use super speed to quickly hit his opponent and knock them down. We also got a brief glimpse of his two fatalities. The first shows Omni-Man hold his victim on a subway track that runs into both of them. Omni-Man is unaffected by this, but his enemy takes the full brunt of the subway and all of those inside, tearing them apart.
The second fatality is arguably much more barbaric. Omni-Man grabs his enemy’s head and proceeds to literally crush it between his bare hands. This is also an homage to the famous scene from the animated adaptation where Omni-Man does this to one of the members of the Guardians of the Globe, before proceeding to murder all of them. Omni-Man is just one of six already announced DLC fighters that will be making their way to Mortal Kombat 1. These fighters also include Ermac, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Takeda, and Homelander, The rest will more than likely be released throughout 2024.
