Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Announced at SDCC, Featuring Many More DLC Kharacters

The first season of Mortal Kombat 1 has ended, and with it over, Netherrealm has wasted no time in following it up and announcing the second season of Mortal Kombat 1, dubbed Khaos Reigns and dropping a trailer at the San Diego Comic Con and revealing the DLC characters for this new era of Mortal Kombat 1 to be Mortal Kombat staples Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot as well as Ghostface from the Scream franchise, the T-1000 liquidmetal Terminator from the Terminator series, and Conan the Barbarian as depicted by Arnold Schwarzenegger from the classic 1982 film of the same name.

As shown in Mortal Kombat 1’s original story campaign stinger, it looks like the titan version of Mortal Kombat villain Havik will be the main antagonist to follow Shang Tsung’s footsteps in trying to take over Liu Kang’s universe. With new chapters added to the Mortal Kombat 1 story much like how Netherrealm handled Mortal Kombat 11’s expansion, these chapters will focus more on the new Mortal Kombat characters coming season 2.

Sektor and Cyrax seem incredibly changed from their original universe depictions, being women now instead of men and being humans in power armors instead of cyborg ninjas, a change that will likely ruffle some feathers. Unlike his cyber underlings though, the face of Bi Han Sub Zero seems to be very similar to his main universe counterpart, as Noob Saibot is born from the death and corruption of Sub Zero as shown in the trailer.

While the first season of Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC could probably be said to lean heavily on the “cape” feel of the story, featuring Omniman, Homelander, and Peacemaker, this second season could be said to be more of an homage to how DLC characters in previous games were handled, with Ghostface hearkening back to the horror movie guests of Mortal Kombats 9 and X, and the T-1000 and Conan being more fitting to Mortal Kombat 11’s addiction to 80s action movies.

Mortal Kombat 1 has been needing some new life breathed into it for a while now, we’ll see if, by the time of the expansions release come September 24th for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
