With the first day of BlizzCon 2017 completed. Overwatch fans had another announcement to be excited about — more elaborate skins, most themed after other Blizzard games, will be added to the game next year without being locked behind limited time events.
The announcement was made at an Overwatch panel during the convention, and that other skins will be periodically added to regular lootboxes, according to Kotaku. Leading off these skins will be a set for Doomfist, Orisa, Mei, Reinhardt, Roadhog, Torbjörn, Widowmaker and Zarya.
A video was tweeted by the official Overwatch Twitter account earlier today showcasing the new skins. Most of the skins are references to other Blizzard series like Diablo, StarCraft and World of Warcraft, while two are based off Overwatch animated shorts. Each skin, its hero and the corresponding series are listed below, in order of appearance.
- Immortal Orisa (StarCraft)
- Magni Bronzebeard Torbjörn (World of Warcraft)
- Nova Widowmaker (StarCraft)
- Blackhand Doomfist (World of Warcraft)
- Barbarian Zarya (Diablo)
- Butcher Roadhog (Diablo)
- Crusader Reinhardt
- Ecopoint Mei

The new skins were shown off with the game’s newest theme park map, Blizzard World, as the video’s backdrop. Blizzard World, along with Overwatch‘s latest hero, Moira, a Talon-affiliated geneticist, were announced earlier today as well. Moira, along with the other 25 heroes, will all receive a variety of cosmetic items including emotes and highlight intros in the new year.
Previously, most of the game’s additional skins launched when themed updates, like the recent Halloween Terror or April’s Uprising, were pushed out to servers. Some of the newly seen cosmetics are for heroes with few ‘legendary’ skins, like Orisa who only received an Uprising legendary, and Doomfist, who will get his first additional look.
Both the new skins and Blizzard World will hit the game in early 2018, while Moira’s release date was left as “coming soon.”
