Imagine a world where humans and monsters share the same lands, living side by side. Monster Sanctuary is that game, and it is a side scrolling creature hunting game where players get to team up with their favorite monsters to discover the new breeds that roam their lands.
As a Monster Keeper, players will fight along side their monstrous companions to overcome not just other mysterious creatures, but challenging terrains as well.
This side scrolling game focuses on more than just collecting monsters, so let’s start with the combat style first. In the demo trailer, we see a Monster Keeper and their monster companion adventuring among the unexplored territory. They are able to better move about the platform by jumping onto rocky walls and swimming within unknown waters; similar to Super Mario. But the game adds in an RPG twist by incorporating turn-based combat. This allows players time to strategize their next best course of action, along with choosing the right monsters to fight by their side. Within the combat, players can unleash the elemental abilities from these cute little creatures that will greatly overcome opponents if used correctly.
Additionally, no Monster Keeper can truly live up to their title unless they have successfully hatched monster eggs. The opportunity to do so isn’t too hard to come by either, for when a player is victorious in combat, they will be rewarded with monster eggs that they will essentially incubate until they are ready to hatch. Adding new monsters to your team is incredibly beneficial because not only do different creatures offer new abilities that can assist in combat, but most monsters can help Monster Keepers unlock new unexplored territory. Each monster also harbors their own skill tree that Monster Keepers can enhance and develop.
Monster Sanctuary is still in the works, but it is expected to reach Kickstarter by September of this year. The full game will be available on Steam, but those interested are strongly encouraged to check out the demo. For more details and updates of the game, fans can visit the Monster Sanctuary website.
