Minecraft Live, the designated name for Microsoft’s Minecraft event, has now had confirmed date for October. As of today in Mojang’s most recent announcement, the virtual event will take start on October 3rd at 9 AM PT. The released trailer for Minecraft Live seems to tease many big updates coming for the game, along with the ability to pick the next Minecraft mob. Other than that, the official announcement for Minecraft Live refrains from giving away the developer’s big surprises for fans. Looking at Mojang’s biggest Minecraft based names (Minecraft, Minecraft Earth, and Minecraft Dungeons) it’s safe to say that the update will probably be directed towards one of those titles.
Mojang has said in both the announcement and the trailer also that the event will be used to “answer pertinent questions about what the rest of Mojang Studios has been working on all year.” It is also said that “Minecraft Live is the new version of our annual live show, which has had many names such as MINECON Live and MINECON Earth.” This event will also be used to release a bunch of Minecraft related news that will be relayed by both the developers and content creators. With the initial announcement of the virtual event, they also promised that they will still be engaging with fans through more frequent game updates.
This event seems to replace what would have been Minecon this year since its discontinuation, as the announcement also states that Minecraft Live will also be a new annual event. Much to fan’s dismay, however, the announcement has also confirmed that Minecraft Festival (the annual community celebration) will be postponed until 2022 due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The opening Minecraft Live event is set to be a pre-recorded broadcast that will be shared on the game’s event website. The actual live-streamed event will be available for viewing through a live stream on Facebook, Youtube, and Twitch.
