Mobile Suit Gundam To Make A Surprise Guest Appearance in Call of Duty

Crossovers are not necessarily a new thing in video games, massively popular games like Fortnite owe their ever ongoing cultural relevance to its numerous crossover appearances. After all watching Peter Griffin from Family Guy dab on Goku from Dragon Ball Z has a certain novelty to it that hearkens back to old Youtube Poop style absurdist comedy. So it’s no surprise many other franchises are hopping on this trend as well which is why you’ll see a giant robot in Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III when Bandai Namco’s iconic series Gundam shows up for a guest appearance.

We don’t know the exact nature of the collaboration, though this isn’t the first time an anime series has crossed over with Call of Duty, since shows such as Attack on Titan has also collaborated with Infinity Ward in the form of skins, so we can make an educated guess as to skins being the probable crossover. From the silhouette shown it appears to not be the iconic RX-78-2 “Grandpa Gundam” that everyone knows and loves, since its forearms are a bit bulkier and may possibly be the arm mounted machine guns of the “Alex”, the Gundam of the ever popular and traumatic War in the Pocket OVA.

While it isn’t a full fledged video game, something that many Gundam fans have been wanting for years especially in the wake of Gundam Evolution’s shutdown last year, it is good to know that Bandai Namco hasn’t entirely pulled Gundam from the video game market. Gundam is one of the most profitable IPs in the world, and it should be capitalized on, which it seems Bandai Namco is experimenting with with this crossover as well as the Requiem for Vengeance Netflix animated show that will be airing this year. Hopefully an actual video game will be on the way soon, as I know many gamers are more than eager to hop into a cockpit and commit at least a few war crimes inside a robot.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
