The Freelands of Mirthwood just got a little less lonely. Today, Bad Ridge Games and V Publishing officially released the long-awaited Co-Op Update for their medieval life sim RPG, letting players share everything from sowing crops to slaying bandits—and even building a family—with a friend. Revealed during ClemmyGames’ Best Indie Games Summer Showcase 2025, the update is now live on PC and supports both local split-screen and Steam Remote Play.
Mirthwood’s lush, storybook-inspired world already offered a charming blend of Stardew-style farming, open-world exploration, and branching personal narratives. Now, that entire experience can be tackled with a partner. The new drop-in/drop-out multiplayer system uses a dynamic split-screen camera that expands and contracts based on player proximity, letting co-op adventurers stay together—or split up to cover more ground.
Co-op partners enjoy full access to the game’s systems, including farming, crafting, skill progression, and combat. Both players maintain their own inventories and gear, and even when one leaves, their progress carries back into their solo world seamlessly. A new revive mechanic allows one player to save the other if downed in combat, encouraging tighter coordination when battling brigands, beasts, or dungeon dwellers.
But perhaps the most unique feature of Mirthwood’s co-op isn’t about farming or fighting—it’s about family. Yes, players can marry their co-op partner and raise a child together. That child matures over time, inherits traits from both parents, and will eventually grow into a fully-fledged NPC with their own path in the game’s simulated world.
The update also delivers several quality-of-life improvements to the core experience, including an enemy lock-on system, new directional attack indicators, and performance optimizations across the board. A few new items and farming structures have been added as well, making the homesteading side of the game even deeper.
Mirthwood‘s Co-Op Update is available now, and while local multiplayer and Steam Remote Play are currently supported, online co-op is already confirmed for a future update. With more features on the way and a growing player base invested in Mirthwood’s blend of medieval slice-of-life and RPG progression, this new chapter promises to be as heartfelt as it is adventurous. The launch trailer also showcases many of these new features for players.
