Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Closed Beta Starts April 22nd

Out on May 24th for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is the highly anticipated sequel to graphically stunning and fun 2008 game, Mirror’s Edge. Initially released to overall fair reviews and a hyped debut for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games, the game was originally praised for its fluid graphics.

Focused on fast-paced, parkour action, the game is geared away from gunplay. Instead, developers at EA Dice made the first person combat system into a melee and gymnastics oriented combat system. When asked for a comment, developers offered:

The combat is an extension of movement, so that melee attacks can be made from every single traversal move…

While some players have turned up their noses at the notion, others are delighted to take part in a game where gun violence was not a jumping off point.

Players follow in the speedy, graceful footsteps of delivery girl, Faith. Where we last left off in the story, Faith had successfully rescued her sister Kate from both being convicted of false murder charges, as well as perishing in a fiery helicopter crash. However, both sisters were still wanted for suspicion of murder.

The upcoming sequel returns to futuristic, utopian city Glass, where players can march right up to a spiral skyscraping and proclaim, “I am going to climb that.” While not a sandbox, open world game comparable to the likes of Skyrim, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst opens up new areas, expanding on the sleek and dangerous world developers had touched on in Mirror’s Edge.

Closed Beta for the game begins this upcoming April 22nd, and will continue for five short days, concluding on the following April 26th. Those chosen for the beta will be alerted via email. Good new is, despite closed beta, everyone will be able to enjoy a kickass, parkour adventure in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst starting May 24th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
