Minkonet Largely Successful with Death Cam in PUBG Amongst Other Technological Additions

Recently, PUBG unveiled its addition of the death cam for players, and the community has reacted extremely positive to the update. According to the information provided to mxdwn Games, an overwhelming number of players have utilized the new death cam function. In addition, other technologies, such as the replay camera system, are beginning to find their footing in the PUBG community.

Minkonet, the Seoul-based gaming technology company, has teamed up with Bluehole Studio to introduce these new technologies into PUBG. The recently added death cam has been used by 70 – 80% of players since its introduction with around nine million replay views each day, and the average viewing time per game session is five minutes. This function has become the hit it is because it uses Minkonet’s 3D replay technology, which not only shows a player how they died, but also allows for creative use.

One of the main uses of the 3D replay technology that Minkonet is hoping for is the creation of fan-driven content. “We’re helping PUBG further strengthen user engagement through our replay technology,” says Gilbert Kim, President & COO of Minkonet. “There is a tremendous amount of raw content just waiting to be unleashed within gaming titles and we’re starting to see some great use cases.” An example of this cinematic element being used can be seen below.

Other uses of the technology are for studying individual play to learn or form new strategies, learn from mistakes, and to continue weeding out possible hackers and cheaters.

In addition to these innovations, Minkonet hopes to build upon these additions to PUBG. Future replay improvements include an A.I. that will create a cinematic highlight of key moments in any given game session. Also, Minkonet is developing anti-cheat A.I. algorithms not only for PUBG, but for the gaming industry as a whole.
