Minecraft’s Dappled Forest Biome will be Featured in the New Wilderness Bound Drop later this September

During May’s Minecraft Live, Mojang introduced the Dappled Forest Biome as part of the third drop of 2026, with fans speculating the drop would happen sometime over the Fall. The Dappled Forest was announced to include the Poplar tree, fallen logs, red shrubs, mushrooms, and a new door made from Poplar tree wood. Additionally, a new structure, called the Abandoned Camp, was revealed with minimal details, though the development team did share that they believe that Abandoned Camp will “plant storytelling seeds, continuing the legacy of creativity that Minecraft is established on.”

At the conclusion of this month’s Minecraft Championship, MCC Fall Stars, Mojang shared more information about this drop, including a name, gameplay tips, and release timeframe. Previously known as Update 26.3 for Java, Update 26.40/50 for Bedrock, and simply Update three of 2026, the drop featuring the Dappled Forest Biome is called Wilderness Bound. Not only does this update include the Dappled Forest, but also the opportunity for players to “sleep under the stars, seek out abandoned camps, and ultimately take on the great outdoors with all its beauty and obstacles.”

“Nature has a habit of humbling those who charge in unprepared,” warns Minecraft news author Linn Viberg, before assuring players that they have “a little more time to prepare” before the drop. As players prepare to explore the new Dappled Forest Biome and uncover “clues about those who came before,” they are encouraged to “pack [their] camping supplies, craft some straw beds, and practice [their] map reading.” The new straw beds allow players to skip over night gameplay without “resetting [their] spawn point,” though it is essential to remember where this point is, as “getting lost is only an adventure if you eventually find your way back.”

While Wilderness Bound still does not have a specific release date, Mojang has confirmed that the drop will be released sometime this month. Like other drops, it will be available for free for both Bedrock and Java users. More information will be announced closer to the update’s release.
