Mojang has just released the latest addition to Minecraft, The Copper Age. Minecraft is a game that waxes and wanes in popularity over time, but it is never truly out of the public eye. One of the clearest indications of the game’s longevity are the constant updates the game receives over a decade after its release. Exciting updates keep long-time players coming back to relive childhood experiences while new players are greeted with a much larger game than Minecraft started as.

The oxidation mechanic had interested players since its reveal, but the amount of copper blocks that interacted with it were nowhere near as extensive as other building blocks like wood and stone. Similarly, copper couldn’t be used for armor or tools like iron or diamond could, making many players discount it entirely. The Copper Age has given the overlooked metal the best of both worlds, with new building blocks and full sets of armor and tools to serve as a bridge between stone and iron.

The most unique feature to come from the update is the copper golem, a friendly mob with a list of complex behaviors. Like all golems, it is produced using its material and a pumpkin, but this golem also supplies players with brand new copper chests. These chests are key to the copper golem’s function. With them, the golem can sort through items in chests, greatly simplifying one of Minecraft’s more tedious mechanics. The golem also oxidizes like all copper, allowing it to become a statue that can be revived at any time.

To many gamers, Minecraft is a reliable friend that they can always return to. The content that is constantly produced for the game makes each experience not quite like the last. The Copper Age is ready to play now on both the Java and Bedrock editions of the game.
