Developed by Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive, Minecraft Legends is a highly anticipated spinoff of Mojang’s original sandbox game. Earlier today, media outlets covered hands-on previews for the upcoming action-strategy release. The previews revealed more details concerning the gameplay, story, and multiplayer in Minecraft Legends.
Minecraft Legends‘ game features will be fundamentally different from previous Minecraft releases, which are explored in the campaign. On this, executive producer Dennis Ries said, “In the beginning, it’s a little bit more structured, because we want to make sure that players understand how to navigate through the game. So some of what we’re trying to do is teach the player like how to spawn mobs, and the bases are usually a little smaller, so you can kind of get through that.”
The multiplayer in Minecraft Legends contains a PvEvP element. On this, GameRant’s Joshua Duckworth commented, “Not only do players have to deal with others attacking their base, but the Piglins will periodically attack. Their frequency and strength depend on a number of factors, such as how aggressive players are in taking out their outposts. Players are able to hit these to gather other important resources, but the Piglins will hit back. It’s not so much a distraction or defining element of the gameplay, based on what we experienced, as it is just another strategic factor.”
Minecraft Legends also introduces a new mechanic regarding mobs from previous Minecraft installments.
“It’s a rare chance to befriend creepers and other creatures I’ve admired but had no choice but to slay or run away from previously,” said Miranda Sanchez, executive editor of guides at IGN.
Minecraft Legends is an action strategy set in a familiar yet mysterious land. Full of diverse life, lush biomes, and rich resources, this world is under attack by the Nether’s Piglin forces, who seek to corrupt the Overworld. Players will form unexpected and valuable alliances to combat this destructive force in strategic battles.
Minecraft Legends is currently available for pre-order and releases later this month on April 18th for all modern platforms.
