Minecraft adding Dungeons, Villagers, and Pandas! Oh My!

MINECON Earth 2018 has finally happened! It has brought us more news about one of the most popular games and what it has in store for its players and audiences.

Up first: the new game! With games like The Binding of Isaac (2011), and The Crypt of the NecroDancer (2015), the dungeon crawl style of gaming is still as popular as it ever was. Mojang announced today that they too, would be jumping on the excitement of dungeon crawling with Minecraft Dungeons.

The tweet that announced Minecraft Dungeons shows off a small section of the trailer for the new game coming to PC in 2019. The full trailer however, shows the set-up of the classic style of dungeon crawling with a 4-player party. The plot for the new game continues as the ending shows off the shadow of the big boss, the evil Arch-Illager. An exciting take on a classic style, this one will be one to look out for.

But for those of us who can’t wait for 2019 to get here, Minecraft also announced a slew of new content for their regular holiday patches. This includes a whole new set of villagers called Pillage and Village. These new characters can have different appearances in different biomes, but are here to fill the villages with new friendly people. However, the pillage part is in reference to the Pillagers and Beasts that are coming to the update as well who will be armed with some new weapons. This will be coming out in early 2019, so less of a wait than the Minecraft Dungeons game.

And one more addition to some upcoming patches:

Pandas! These “lazy and playful” animals won’t be quite out at the same time as the Pillage and Village patch. These little guys were only announced, but it has been stated that there will be “news about these adorable new Minecraft mobs in the next few weeks”. Minecraft has said to keep an eye out on their webpage to find out when exactly everything will be added to the games.

You can still watch what was announced at MINECON on Minecraft’s website here.
