With Pride Month coming to a close on June 1, many game companies like EA and Ubisoft quietly dropped their LGBTQIA-friendly social media presence and resumed business as usual—but not MidBoss. The San Francisco-based indie studio has organized its fourth annual Season of Pride, month-long celebration of LGBTQIA+ visibility in gaming. According to the event’s website, the official MidBoss Twitch channel will be hosting scheduled livestreams by LGBTQIA+ content creators (such as UrbanBohemian and appleadayxo) playing queer-centered games throughout the month of July.
These fun “gaymers” will be playing some of the best and most unique games that showcase positive representation of queer characters and stories. Tune in and discover some really great games, and follow some really fun streamer personalities.
Viewer donations made during each stream will go towards eight LGBTQIA+ charities: The Trevor Project, Trans Lifelife, Minus18, Black Girls Code, GaymerX, Mermaids, Girls Who Code, and Women in Games International. The event is also backed by some of the biggest names in gaming, such as the International Game Developers Association, Steam, Humble, Devolver Digital, and Annapurna Interactive. Thanks to their support, Season of Pride will also be promoting a Steam sale on LGBTQIA+ games from July 9th to the 23rd to raise additional funds for the charities. The event raised nearly $30,000 in 2021, and MidBoss CEO Cade Peterson intends to break that record with this year’s festivities.
We are so grateful to host another Season of Pride to shine a spotlight on all the great LGBTQIA+ games and content creators and to support the mission of some great causes. Donate early, donate often! Add some games to that backlog and feel good about it!
Throughout the month, updates on scheduled streams and game sales will be available on both the Season of Pride website and MidBoss’s official Twitter page.
