Last week, the video game community was losing their collective mind following reports and rumors that big Xbox First-Party titles such as Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones, and more could be going multiplatform. This led to lot of questions including whether or not the Xbox brand itself could be ending with Microsoft no longer making consoles. Following the reports, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer took to social media and announced that they would address everything in an Xbox business update event. Today, Xbox revealed what those plans are.
A special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast is set for Thursday, February 15, at 12 pm PT|3 pm ET|8 pm GMT where Phil Spencer, Xbox President Sarah Bond, and Head Of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty will share updates on the Xbox business.
In addition to the announcement, it has been reported that Phil Spencer told employees in an internal townhall meeting that Xbox currently has no plans to stop making consoles. Xbox will continue to be a part of the strategy which involves “multiple kinds of devices.”
Following the reports and rumors of Xbox exclusives going multiplatform, several notable Xbox influencers publicly withdrew support for the brand. They are unhappy that games previously marketed as Xbox exclusives could be made available for other platforms.
In his statement following the backlash, Spencer said “We’re listening and we hear you.”
We’ll have to wait and see what’s next for Xbox when the special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast drops on Thursday.
