Microsoft’s Xbox event, XO18, is set to take place this weekend in Mexico City from Saturday, November 10 to Sunday, November 11. Many were wondering what the company would reveal or announce, and now Microsoft themselves have given us taste of things to come. The company tweeted that there will be “big news” for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, as well as Shadow of the Tomb Raider and State of Decay 2, three prominent titles that have built a fanbase in one form or another.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has already made some waves today, when it was announced that the game would be free for limited time on the Xbox One from November 8 to November 11. The promotion comes at a fortuitous time, as some other Battle Royale games, such as Fortnite and Call of Duty Black Ops 4: Blackout, have gained momentum in the market. In addition, Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson, tweeted recently some of the games that are confirmed for special showcases, including Crackdown 3, Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 4.
Microsoft has been busy this year with its marketing campaigns, such as the new payment plan for the consoles called the Xbox All Access, and the ambitious streaming plan, Project xCloud. On top of that, their chief competitor, Sony, recently announced that their annual event, the PlayStation Experience, won’t be happening this year. In the console market, this leaves Microsoft almost uncontested, as they will no doubt be unveiling some updates on anticipated games, and possibly some new ones.
As we approach the weekend, the spotlight is on Microsoft now, and they will do everything to make full use of it. Hopefully, some excellent surprises await us. Once again, XO18 goes from Saturday, November 10, to Sunday, November 11 at 1:pm PST. You can watch the livestream of the event on either Twitch or Mixer.
