Microsoft Restores Older Call of Duty Multiplayer Servers

Call of Duty fans are playing older Xbox 360 titles again thanks to Microsoft fixing the multiplayer servers on older titles.

This comes from multiple sources on Twitter such as CharlieIntel, Tom Warren and Xbox News that Microsoft fixed the old Call of Duty multiplayer servers on older titles such as World At War, Modern Warfare 3 (2011), and Black Ops 2.  These fixes occured earlier during last week around July 12th-July 16th as old multiplayer servers are being fixed due to matchmaking issues that were occuring for years.  Now that these fixes have been resolved, for the most part, players are flocking back to the classic titles.
This doesn’t mean that Xbox 360s are being dusted off and powered on.  This is mostly due to the backwards compatibility support by Xbox on Xbox One and Series consoles.

According to a tweet made by Tom Warren, the top paid games at the moment are the Xbox 360 Call of Duty titles such as, Black Ops 2, Modern Warfare 2 (2009), and Modern Warfare 3 (2011).    The player counts are nothing to scoff at either.  Xbox News on Twitter posted screenshots of the player counts for Black Ops which had 123,534 players, and over on Modern Warfare 3 (2011) 76762 players were online.  Not bad for 13 and 14 year old games.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows though.  Although a massive comeback for these older titles, according to GameRant, input issues are prominent, as well as the issues with hackers, which have been a problem for a while now.  According to GameRant, “Besides dwindling multiplayer populations, players have had to deal with hackers ruining matches and more recently, wonky servers that have made it next to impossible to get into a match.”  These issues with the servers have been fixed but the imput issues and hacker issues have not.  Some players have reported that they are still encountering hackers.

It’s unknown at the moment if the hacker issue or input issue will be fixed but with Microsoft having the go-a-head to close the Activision-Blizzard deal, these older titles could be coming to Game Pass soon and hopefully a solution to these new and prolonged issues.
