In a blog post today, Microsoft announced an upcoming partnership with the popular online chat service, Discord.
The feature will work a lot like adding any other social media account to a profile. Players who link their Discord accounts to their Xbox Live accounts will allow connections on both platforms to see what game you are playing and where you are playing it.
You will be able to adjust your settings or link your accounts from either the Xbox or the PC. Linking up will require a verification code to be sent to you, but the whole process should only take a few minutes. Once the accounts are linked, you will be able to share your Xbox Live status to all your friends on Discord, allowing them to see what you are up to even if you aren’t at your computer.
“You will now have the option to link your Discord account to your Xbox account, making it easier than ever to see what your friends are playing. If you are playing Sea of Thieves on your Xbox, you can now choose to give your Discord friends the ability to see that and decide whether they want to hop on their Xbox and join you,” the blog post read.
This is yet another move towards cross platform integration between consoles and computers. Sea of Thieves is obviously a prime example of this as it actually allows for cross platform competitive play across the Xbox and PC. This new service serves as another way for players to communicate between different platforms.
“We’re excited about working with Discord and are thrilled to enable new ways for gamers to connect with one another online,” developers shared within the announcement. While there isn’t an exact release date, Xbox Insiders will start seeing the option very soon, and it should be rolled out to everyone within a few weeks.
