Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux Free Next-Gen Update Coming October 29th

The Metro series is set in a post-apocalyptic world that began as a novel and was later adapted into a game by 4A Games, with the first title being Metro 2033, followed by the sequel Metro: Last Light. Both games would go on to be well received and later receive remasters in the form of Redux versions. Ahead of the newest installment of the series, the Metro franchise has officially sold over 50 million copies worldwide. As a thank-you, both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will receive free next-gen updates for owners of the games. This next-gen update will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on October 29.

As of now, the Metro franchise is 16 years old, as Metro 2033 released back in 2010, beginning the journey through the metros of post-apocalyptic Russia. Then, in 2014, Metro 2033 received a remaster for PS4 and Xbox One as Metro 2033 Redux. And now, in 2026, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are set to receive a free next-gen update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, following the series’ sale of over 50 million copies worldwide just months before the release of the newest title. The next-gen update brings native support to both platforms, along with 4K at 60FPS and upscaled 4K at 120FPS (with the right monitor or TV hardware), as well as higher-quality lighting, shadows, and particle effects. PC will receive implemented DLSS and spatial audio support, as well as quality-of-life community bug fixes and frequently requested improvements. The full patch notes will be available at launch, as these are simply a taste for players of what to expect when it goes live.

The Metro series is on a roll as of now, with the highly anticipated Metro 2039 on the horizon; it has hit one of its greatest milestones, with over 50 million copies sold worldwide. And thanking players with a free next-gen update shows how much 4A Games cares not only about the series but also about its players; it’s great to see, especially in the current gaming landscape. Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux Free Next-Gen Update will be available for PC on October 22, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series receiving it on October 29.

Jorge Peredo: Growing up, I've always been fascinated by storytelling, whether through reading, watching, or playing video games. Having been exposed to storytelling for so long, I have been influenced, and through that influence, I seek to write and create my own stories that others can enjoy and that I can be proud of.
