It looks like we’ll have to wait just a bit longer for Dotemu’s next IP to see a release. The publisher announced that Metal Slug Tactics has officially been delayed until 2023 adding that the extra time will enable them to make it “as explosive as possible.” The game was originally set for release sometime in 2022, and despite the longer wait, this will allow developers Leikir Studio to make the overall experience even better. The game is set to release for the Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.
It’s also been a while since we even had any major updates, going a full year to the day when Dotemu showcased it during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase. It was initially revealed during the Summer Game Fest livestream in 2021, where it was introduced as a tactical spin-off from the popular shoot-em-up of the mainline entries. Metal Slug Tactics is a Tactical RPG, similar to well-known stalwarts such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Advance Wars, but still retaining the classic Metal Slug aesthetic that SNK created way back in 1996.
It doesn’t seem like either Dotemu nor Leikir Studios are under any type of stress to rush this title, as indicated in the special artwork on the above tweet. This is an excellent sign that both parties are still working in tandem with good spirits. Hopefully, we’ll have some more information in regards to the title before the year is done. At the very least, we know that the project is still very much alive and that Leikir Studios is hard at work to make the experience a memorable one. Metal Slug Tactics will now officially launch sometime in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.
