It seems fans may have gotten a sneak peak at Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s release date today. Reddit user, Mikefancypants posted a screenshot, on his account, of the games potential release date as February 24th, 2015.
News of The Phantom Pain’s early launch date is quite odd considering how widely popular MGS is with fans and publisher Konami has not yet announced the final date. However multiple retail stores are corroborating with the February release including Microsoft Store, Smart Game Shopper, and Rakuten. The Reddit poster also works in retail and stated that the original date read December 31, 2014. Why it systematically changed nobody knows, but he noticed it while checking the store’s inventory.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain takes place following the events in MGS V: Ground Zeroes. Ground Zeroes was released earlier this year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Also it was re-released for PC on Steam. The Phantom Pain will once again have Snake, aka Big Boss, as the stories central character. Apart from some slight differences, The Phantom Pain’s game play will stay relatively the same to MGS V: Ground Zeroes.
There has been no word from Konami or developer, Kojima Productions on the reveal of this release date. Fans should be wary before taking this leak as a fully pledged date for the games launch. Please visit Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s website for more information
