Mental Health Puzzle Game Unwording Released on Steam and GOG

Frostwood Interactive, Armaan Sandhu’s one man indie studio, has officially released Unwording. As of April 27th, players can enjoy introspective word puzzles carefully created during Unwording’s development as part of Steam Puzzle Fest and LudoNarracon. Unwording is now available for $4.49 on Steam and GOG

Sandhu was inspired by his own mental health journey to create a game to address cognitive distortions. Unwording joins a growing cohort of mindfulness or otherwise therapeutic games, but Frostwood Interactive’s new title distinguishes itself with dynamic animation, an entrancing narrative, and art that’s brimming with life. It’s hard to take your eyes off, as the visuals of the game slide seamlessly from one visual style to another, from 2D pencil to 3D rendering to hyperrealism. Here’s the official description of Unwording:

Join Tom, a person with a glass-half-empty perspective, as he embarks on a journey through the streets of his neighborhood and his own mind. Accompanied by a mischievous yellow bird, help Tom challenge his thoughts and have a better day by solving word puzzles, exploring his neighborhood through multiple visual styles, and gaining a new perspective on life.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, a record number of Americans are struggling with their mental health. Perhaps this is why Unwording has been so well received. According to a press release from Frostwood Interactive, Sandhu has been touched by the way Unwording has resonated with so many people. “The response to the demo was overwhelmingly positive,” said Sandhu, “with many players expressing emotional connections to the game’s themes and characters. Developing the game was a cathartic and growing experience for me – I really hope playing the game is similarly helpful to the players, and is as meaningful to them as it was to me in its creation.”

New players can find the game on Steam for $4.49 or on Good Old Games for $4.49.
