Keiji Inafune, often referred to as the father of Mega Man, is working on HD side-scrolling action game Mighty No. 9, a spiritual successor to Capcom’s blue bomber.
Mighty No. 9‘s description sounds like a classic Mega Man game. No. 9 is the 9th in a series of robots and the only one to avoid a mysterious virus that turns the other 8 robots berserk. You run through levels themed around each robot, tackling them in any order you want, and blast enemies to bits with powers stolen from your enemies.
The game is being funded through Kickstarter, with almost $600,000 of the $900,000 goal raised to far. If it gets funded, Mighty No. 9‘s expected release date is Spring 2015 on PC through Steam. Stretch goals include new levels, a new game plus mode, and releases on other platforms and consoles.
