Guru Games’ upcoming first person adventure game Medusa’s Labyrinth will be making its Kickstarter debut on October 21st.
Okay, in truth Medusa’s Labyrinth shares a lot more in common with Amnesia: The Dark Descent than either of those film franchises. Set in ancient Greece, Medusa’s Labyrinth has you exploring ancient catacombs and ruins as you try to escape the wrath of one of the minotaur, who never stops stalking you. You have limited resources, and an even more limited HUD: the game forgoes any kind of health, magic, or other readouts, instead using a dynamically manifesting inventory system to force you to keep track of your own status.
Probably Medusa’s Labyrinth’s most interesting point is that the game is being built from the ground up to be an Oculus Rift title. Survival horror/adventure on the Oculus Rift? With the graphical and audio fidelity games today can manage, combining that with the hyper-immersion of the Oculus can mean only one thing for players, and that’s nightmares far into their future of dripping stone, creeping shadows, and the scream of the minotaur crashing down upon them.
Like many small studios, Guru Games is having difficulty finding funding to complete their project, so the team is taking the logical approach and will be sending Medusa’s Labyrinth out to do its own minotaur impression and start hunting them down some funding via Kickstarter later this month. The kickstarter will begin on October 21st, but you can visit the page now to follow along with the game’s countdown timer if you really want to jump on the bandwagon early.
Catacombs, minotaurs, and Kickstarter. Where can you go wrong? No details are available yet as to what kinds of bonuses or incentives will be offered for donators, but maybe if you’re lucky, minotaur repellent will be one of them.
