Yesterday, information was released about a delay for the first-person simulator action game MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. A development update on the the game’s official website stated that, “It has been officially announced that Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries will now be releasing on December 10th 2019 exclusively on the Epic Games Store.” The reason for this as stated by Piranha Games was that they needed, “to put considerable more quality into the game while also giving us the time needed to localize to other languages and to put considerable effort into marketing the game’s release.” The company is offering refund for anyone who pre-ordered the game through their website.
For those who don’t know, the MechWarrior series is a battle simulation game in which players control massive war machines called “BattleMechs“. They fight against NPCs such as infantry, tanks, and other BattleMechs. There are different types of BattleMechs and players can switch between them for different weapon types, and armor choices. The game has six different weapon groups and allow players to diversify their playstyle. The game series is known for having incredibly high resolution graphics for their time and while we don’t know what MechWarrior 5: Mercnearies will be like, based on previous games, we can assume that it could continue that trend. The game series is part of the larger BattleTech universe. BattleTech is a sci-fi and wargame franchise launched by FASA in 1984 and acquired by Wizkids in 2000, however, in 2003 it was acquired by Topps.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was initially going to be released in 2018, however, the team at Piranha Games pushed the date to 2019. Now, this is the second time that the team has pushed the date, however, one can hope that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be worth the wait. The game will be available for Windows and PC via the Epic Games Store.
