People who’ve always wanted to hop aboard the Normandy will now get a chance to. California’s Great America and Electronic Arts (EA) are teaming up to bring the Mass Effect universe to life in a new interactive ride.
The ride, which will be curated by a live performer, will take guests on a journey to a distant planet, where they will face off against larger-than-life foes and will ultimately get a chance to take part in the action. The use of motion based seating, 3D glasses coupled with high tech sound and other 4D special effects is said to give riders a “truly compelling and immersive” experience.
Characters and settings from the Mass Effect Universe are said to also be included in the experience.
“Teaming with a world-wide gaming leader like EA will enable us to build an incredible user experience for Great America guests,” said California’s Great America Vice President and General Manager Raul Rehnborg. “This combination of technology and creative video game content is sure to usher in a new wave of entertainment innovation at amusement parks.”
The attraction ride will open in the newly renovated Action Theater, and will replace “Mumble’s Wild Ride” a ride based on the Happy Feet series of animated films. The ride is expected to open in 2016 at California’s Great America in Santa Clara, California.
The next game in the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda, is scheduled for holiday 2016.
