Just as BioWare promised, they have released yet another video showing off more of what Mass Effect: Andromeda will have to offer. In this newest video, we are taken along for a ride through the Andromeda galaxy and shown just how massive the open world RPG will be.
The video is part 3 of the Official Gameplay Series on the games youtube channel where they previously showed off combat and profiles. In this video however, we are taken on a small journey to the well known galaxy map on the ship as well as one of the few planets players will be able to traverse and complete tasks and objectives.
The video narration reveals that there will be over one hundred planets players will be able to discover; only a “handful” will be explorable. Anytime a player looks out the ships windows, it will see the actual surrounding space that the player currently occupies in real time. These explorable planets will be separate from the main missions and allow players to complete unique story objectives for each planet they go to as well as having their own unique characters to meet.
Each planet will have a different environmental challenge, in the video the planet being explored suffered from extreme heat. The players will have to be smart about how they travel as the Nomad will have a limited time before the environment will take its toll. In order to get around this, players must set up small “forward stations” by finding new locations around the planet. These forward stations will allow players to re supply and recharge the Nomad’s hull to continue moving through the deadly environment.
All of the things players do on the planet will add to its viability, and once at 40% players will be able to create an outpost and upgrade the Nexus( the Andromeda Initiative space station). As players build up the Nexus, they will then be able to choose who to bring out of stasis depending on what perks you want to get. Scientist will give an edge to research and development, military personnel will give an edge in combat, and merchants to make trading better.
Lastly, the video talks about vaults that will be on the planets somewhere that will hold valuables and secrets for the player to discover. Each vault will challenge every aspect of gameplay that players must complete to gain access to all it holds. Take a look at the video below and see what you think. Mass Effect is set to release on March 21st.
