Masahiro Sakurai Has Started a YouTube Channel Focused on Gaming and Development

After revealing Sora as the final fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one would think that Masahiro Sakurai would take a nice and long needed vacation. A little less than a year later and the developer is already onto new business, but not quite the way you would think. Sakurai has announced that he has started a YouTube channel under his own name with the ably titled Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games. The channel will focus on Sakurai’s perspective on how to develop a game, as well as going into his history at Nintendo here and there. He already has a few videos up on his channel, indicating that he’s wasting no time on this new venture.

In Sakurai’s first video, he states that his channel will be mainly on him talking about specific ideas and quirks that make video games the way they are. The videos are intended to be short, concise, and to the point, while also maintaining Sakurai’s pleasant tone and subtle humor. He also mentions that this channel has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo, as it is a special project of his own doing, even going as far as hiring editors and writers for the process himself. He also states that any footage he presents from any Nintendo title, including any that he himself has worked on, has been approved by Nintendo ahead of time.

Considering that Sakurai is one of the most well known developers to come from some of Nintendo’s greatest titles, it’s not surprising to see the company give him so much leeway with this project. For those who don’t know, Sakurai is not only the main director and creator of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, he has also created what some consider to be the greatest Nintendo character ever conceived, the wonderful pink ball of joy Kirby.

With his work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate complete, Sakurai is now turning his attention to the future generation of gamers and developers. If anything, this is easily a channel that we’re very excited to watch with every new upload, as getting the chance to have some serious insight from one of the most legendary game developers is something of a real treat.
