Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date Announced

After years of anticipation, Marvel’s Wolverine, the next big video game from Insomniac Games, now has a firm launch date. Sony and Insomniac confirmed that the PlayStation 5 exclusive will release on September 15, 2026.

First announced back in September 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine is being built by the same studio behind the hugely successful Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Rumors from a couple years ago were that the game was expected to launch in 2024, however that never came to fruition. Insomniac has described the game as a standalone action-adventure that shares continuity with its Spider-Man universe but focuses squarely on Logan, a character known for his ferocity, healing factor, and adamantium claws.

Fans finally got a substantial look at the game during PlayStation’s State of Play showcase in September 2025, where a gameplay trailer debuted to show Logan slicing through enemies with brutal precision. That trailer emphasized the game’s visceral close-quarters combat and promised a mature, intense tone befitting Wolverine’s character. This would be a stark contrast to the more acrobatic and colorful style of Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles. Locations teased in the trailer include snowy wildernesses, gritty urban settings, and dangerous hideouts, while characters like Omega Red and Mystique were hinted at, suggesting a narrative steeped in classic X-Men lore.

Insomniac’s developers have said the story will explore Logan’s complex past, thrusting players into a global journey that dives deep into his psyche and legendary rage. The game is built as a single-player experience with a focus on brutal combat, exploration, and a weighty narrative rather than open-world freedom, although many specifics about structure and world design are still under wraps.

Although Marvel’s Wolverine was missing from Sony’s early-2026 State of Play showcase, the sudden announcement of the September release date surprised many fans, arriving through a short social media reveal rather than a large reveal event or extended trailer. Sony and Insomniac have hinted at more details, including deeper looks at gameplay mechanics and story elements that are expected to surface in the spring leading up to launch.

With its release now locked in for mid-September, Marvel’s Wolverine stands as one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusives of 2026. However this release date positions itself roughly two months before Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19, 2026, launch. This could be strategic move to make sure people will buy and play the game well ahead of GTA VI’s prospected blockbuster debut later in that year.
