Many games that prominently feature heroes as playable fighters also make room in their roster for villains. When adapting characters from a preestablished series, the villains have added weight due to their prior relationship with the hero characters. With the upcoming Season 10 for Marvel Rivals approaching, the ominous Gorr the God Butcher received a showcase of his deadly abilities along with his mission to slay all the gods of the Marvel series, including characters like Loki and Thor, gods of Asgard.
The trailer begins with the hooded figure of Gorr traveling along the rainbow bridge to the home of the gods while the air around him has grown red and devastated. He declares his mission as impartial and in opposition to deception, leading to his continued battle with Loki and his illusions. Their clash leads to Loki’s death, causing Thor to intervene for revenge. The trailer ends with a stylized battle, with Thor using his hammer Mjolnir and Gore using the Necrosword capable of killing immortals.
Gorr also receives a character trailer, introducing his playstyle and tactics. He takes the role of a duelist given his lethal mission, with most of his attacks done at medium distance using his sword. Throughout the trailer, his sword also transforms into black ranged tendrils and a massive dark scythe. In addition to personal attacks, he can also call on minions to fight at his side. His most powerful attack sees him holding the Necrosword high before delivering a series of strikes reaching far out in front of him in waves, capable of striking multiple opponents at once.
Gorr the God Butcher is a deeply dangerous character, both in his source material and in his presentation in Marvel Rivals. The full extent of his powers and abilities will become clear when he arrives along with Season 10 on September 11th.
