Ever since his reveal during The Game Awards, players have been speculating and discussing various rumors regarding the Deadpool in Marvel Rivals. As one of Marvel‘s most popular characters, more information about his role and playstyle was eagerly anticipated by the player base. Today, the game confirmed the most popular theory going around about the character, that being that he can take on any of the game’s roles, offering a unique set of traits depending on which mode he is in.
The new trailer kicks off by showing Deadpool in his Duelist mode, using his pistols and swords to engage enemies nearby and at range. After that, yet another of his unique mechanics is introduced through his folder. In it, he has access to various upgrades that can emphasize certain aspects of his playstyle. As he levels up, these traits will become better, giving the character a personal RPG system. Deadpool also alludes to his classic ability to break the fourth wall and comment on the design choices of the game itself. Later in the trailer, fans also get a glimpse of him in strategist mode, able to paradoxically heal his allies by shooting them, and his vanguard mode, capable of charging quickly into danger.
To go along with the reveal, the developers also released a video going into more detail about Season 6. Deadpool takes over the show toward the beginning, breaking down his mechanics is greater detail. The video also goes over the story with the new area, The Collector’s Museum, and how that will impact the new characters, Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone.
Hero shooter games are well known for having defined roles for their characters, making each feel both familiar and unique. True to the chaotic character, Deadpool defies this convention with what seems to be the most mechanically complex character the game has seen so far. Deadpool and Season 6 will be available for play on January 16th
