Markus Persson Purchases $70 Million Mansion

It is perhaps a sign of the times when videogame developers are living like rock stars and outspending some of the biggest names in the music industry, as Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has purchased a mansion in Beverly Hills, California for a jaw dropping $70 million.

The mansion, located more specifically on 1108 NorthHillcrest Drive, also happens to be the single most expensive piece of property in Beverly Hills. At 23,000 square-feet, the mansion has eight bedrooms and fifteen bathrooms, and boasts panoramic views of Los Angeles as well as the Pacific Ocean. It also has a 54 foot glass door that leads to an infinity pool with iPad-controlled fountains. As if that weren’t enough, the house also comes packaged with several luxury items that include cases of Dom Perignon and a replica of James Dean’s motorcycle.

This one-percenter’s haven attracted the attention of the likes of Jay Z and Beyonce, and triggered a bidding war between four buyers. Notch, of course, won the bidding and was all too happy to broadcast the news through his real estate agent, Sally Forster Jones of John Aaroe Group. “It’s a little bit of the dream come true,” she said, “A young guy who goes and creates, sells, and makes all this money. This is a reward.”

According to the real estate agency, Persson paid in cash and closed the deal in a brief six days.

Persson has been more than capable of buying his new home ever since he sold his Swedish-based studio, Mojang, to Microsoft for an astonishing $2.5 billion last September, with the now-billionaire taking a $1.75 billion cut. Persson then departed the studio along with co-founder Jakob Porser, and Mojang has subsequently joined the ranks of other Microsoft studios like Lionhead and 343.

Shortly after moving in, Persson tweeted a photo of himself enjoying his new abode.
