While only a few days after its release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already has plenty of reviews from some of the top sights around the web. While a newer version of the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8, the Deluxe offers more for the Nintendo Switch.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been designed to be for the Nintendo Switch and includes all the content that was released for the Wii U version. This means players will have access to 42 characters, 48 grand prix tracks, battle mode, and kart customization.
As for the reviews, the one thing that almost everyone can agree on is the fact that the visuals on the Switch look absolutely stunning when in either tv or handheld mode. Despite being in the somewhat limited handheld mode, the game still runs smoothly and with great graphics.
Many also feel that the game was already great on the Wii U, but due to a few small changes along with a better Battle mode, the game has surpassed expectations. The only negatives that really stand out is the fact that blue shells are still the most aggravating thing when you are a few feet from victory and you get spun out.
Take a look at some of the reviews below and see what you think.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an amazing game for all the same reasons I mentioned in our original review. It’s still a gorgeous kart racer and every bit as addictive as it was in 2014. This is the best entry in the series so far, and it has all the content you’ll need. Returning players have seen a lot of this game before, but the overhauled Battle mode and its five additional ways to play are a great reason to pick it up. Nintendo didn’t do enough to make the online experience better, but the rest of this game holds up well. — Jose Otero
Even if you didn’t really care about Battle Mode, the smallest changes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe refine an already great racing game. But the huge overhaul to the original’s afterthought of a Battle Mode is a chaotic, varied opportunity to play very differently than in Grand Prix mode and well worth reinvesting yourself in Mario Kart 8 on Switch.– Kalle Plagge

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Part of the original Mario Kart 8 was broken, and Nintendo fixed it in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, giving an already spectacular game substantial new legs. As for those of you new to Mario Kart 8, you’re showing up to the party at exactly the right time. We were just about to tap the keg. Leave your kart keys in the basket by the door and get on in here.– Mike Fahey

After Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the next Nintendo Switch must-buy. It’s the best the series has ever been, offering one definitive package. With the glorious return of Battle Mode, improved visuals and more content than ever before coupled with more ways to play it than ever thanks to the Nintendo Switch, I don’t think fans could ask for much more.– Brett Phipps
