As Mario Kart 8 Deluxe begins to release remastered tracks into the game, Nintendo has announced an upcoming tournament in the game. The tournament will be called the North American Open March 2022 and is going to be played on March 25-27. Over the course of these dates, there will be 24 winners selected to receive a prize of gold points to be used in the game’s shop.
The match will be an open tournament for any players who log into the game during those dates. In order to access the tournament, players will have to search for the tournament in the online play section of the game. On all three days, the tournament will be played from 12 p.m. pacific time, until 6 p.m. pacific time. After the time slot for each day, the top eight players will earn 2,500 gold points. The prize will come out to roughly $25 in total for each of the winners.
Coincidentally, the $25 prize will be the perfect amount to buy the Booster Course Pass. The pass grants access to newly remastered tracks from previous games. The tracks will come out in six different waves with the first eight tracks releasing on March 18. By the end of 2023, all 48 of the new tracks will be released in the different waves.
Although Nintendo did not say whether the tournament would include some of the remastered tracks, it is unlikely since players would then have to pay to be included in the tournament. Despite likely not including new tracks, creating a free tournament will be good for Nintendo since it will help draw players in as the game adds more content.
While Nintendo already has a long history of success in the Mario franchise, the company will continue to expand on their success with additions to already very popular games.
